Sensory Integration: Making Sense of the World – One Sensory Experience at a Time
At KITES Child Development Centre, we understand that some children experience challenges in processing sensory information, which can affect their daily functioning and participation in activities. Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT), developed by occupational therapist Dr. A. Jean Ayres, aims to help children improve their ability to process and respond appropriately to sensory stimuli.
Our occupational therapists conduct comprehensive assessments to identify sensory processing difficulties, such as over-responsivity, under-responsivity, or sensory-seeking behaviors. Based on the assessment, individualized intervention plans are developed, incorporating activities that provide the “just-right challenge” to engage the child and promote adaptive responses.
Therapeutic activities may include the use of swings, trampolines, textured materials, and other equipment designed to stimulate the vestibular, proprioceptive, tactile, auditory and visual systems. These interventions aim to enhance body awareness, coordination, attention and emotional regulation.
By improving sensory integration, children can develop better self-regulation skills, leading to increased participation in daily activities, improved social interactions, and enhanced learning experiences. Our goal at KITES is to support each child in achieving their fullest potential by creating a supportive and engaging therapeutic environment tailored to their unique sensory needs.
