Social Communication (Pragmatic Language)
At KITES Child Development Centre, we recognize that strong social communication – or pragmatic language – is essential for building friendships, participating in groups, and fostering emotional intelligence. Pragmatic skills involve not only speaking but also interpreting body language, understanding conversational rules & adapting language across different social settings.
Our therapy targets key skills such as initiating conversations, taking conversational turns, maintaining topics, repairing communication breakdowns & interpreting nonverbal cues like facial expressions & tone of voice. Children learn to adjust their communication style based on context – whether speaking to a peer, teacher, or unfamiliar adult – and to express empathy & emotions appropriately.
Intervention methods include structured social skills groups, video modeling, peer-mediated interactions, role-playing & personalized Social Stories that teach expected behaviors in real-world situations. Play-based social scenarios allow children to practice these skills through games, imaginative play & collaborative activities.
As skills are mastered in therapy, we focus on generalization into natural environments such as classrooms, playgrounds, and community settings. Our goal is to support children in developing meaningful relationships, self-advocacy skills, and confidence in navigating social worlds.
We believe that communication is not just about speaking — it’s about connecting, relating, and thriving.
